Human Services or Social Work

HumanservHuman services professionals are involved in programs that meet and protect the individual needs of older people, promote and implement services to aid children and families, administer treatment programs for mental health clients, provide for the confinement and rehabilitation of offenders, and involve the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and the prevention and treatment of addiction. The AA degree with an emphasis on Human Services/Social Work prepares students to transfer to a university with Human Services, Social Work or Chemical Dependency studies. Students will be prepared to enter the academic rigors of upper level division course work or an entry level Human Services position. Most Social Work and Human Services positions require the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. The Associate of Arts and Associate of Science are transfer degrees and are awarded without designation of major, but do follow curriculum transfer plans.  These degrees indicate that a student has completed a course of study that is essentially equivalent to the first two years of a baccalaureate degree.

PLEASE NOTE: When selecting courses, students should consult the catalog of the school to which they intend to transfer. They should then work with their DCC advisor to assure that the proper classes are being taken at DCC.  Together, the student and the advisor will select courses that will fit into the program at the transfer institution.
