Giving

Each year the Dawson College Foundation calls on friends like you to give generously to support and promote the welfare of Dawson Community College.  The Dawson College Foundation solicits and administers gifts to benefit DCC and its students.  Donations to the Dawson College Foundation are used as scholarships for deserving DCC students, and to fund programs and projects to enrich the educational experience at the college.

Donations to the Foundation can be made in the form of money, stocks, real estate, and other property.  Although real estate and other property must be evaluated and accepted, such donations often make a great deal of sense for the donor, and are genuinely welcomed by the Foundation.  Donations are welcomed in any amount, and at any time.  Membership donations fall into the following categories:

Contributor

Up to $25

Donor

$26-$50

Sponsor

$51-$100

Benefactor

$101-$250

Patron

$251-$999

Sustaining Member $1,000-$4,999

Lifetime Member

$5,000 & above

The names of Lifetime Members are inscribed on a permanent plaque displayed at DCC. Most donations are given without restrictions; however, donors may request that their gifts be used for specific purposes, such as scholarships in particular programs.

The success DCC enjoys today is due in large measure to support from alumni and friends. Thank you for your continued commitment to the college.

Endowments

You have the power to help safeguard the future of Dawson Community College. How? By making an endowed gift. Your gift is an investment in our future, helping us grow and thrive for years to come.

Endowed Fellowship

Earnings from an endowed fellowship supplement  faculty salaries, allowing the university to employ the most  qualified faculty possible.  A fully fund a fellowship requires $500,000. Endowed professorships are often funded over a period of time, or through planned gifts such as estates and trusts.

Endowed Scholarships

An endowed scholarship may be fully funded for as little as $10,000. A scholarship may be established with just $2,500, provided additional gifts bring the corpus to $10,000 within two years.  Donors may determine the criteria for these scholarships based on a student’s geographic location, GPA, financial need, or major field of study.

Donation Options

Whatever the amount, your gift is important because it has an immediate and tangible impact on students, faculty and academic programs. Gifts may be restricted to a particular program, department, scholarship, or left unrestricted to be used by the college where the need is greatest. You can make a donation to the Dawson College Foundation using one of the following methods:

Pledges enable donors to plan a personal giving program that is both convenient and tax-wise. A pledge may enable a donor to consider a more significant gift than would have been otherwise possible. Terms for payment on pledges are flexible and at the discretion of the donor.

Cash is often the most convenient form of giving. Cash gifts are fully deductible for federal income tax purposes, provided deductions are itemized.

Securities may be made as outright gifts, as a payment on a pledge, or to establish a planned gift. Stock certificates may be assigned directly to the Foundation or may be electronically transferred through the donor’s broker. The average market value of the stocks on the date of transfer will determine the value of the gift for tax purposes. In addition to receiving federal and state tax deductions based on the full fair market value, capital gains tax is avoided when stock is transferred directly to the Foundation. Please consult with a Foundation staff member before a transaction is made to secure asset transfer information.

Real Estate is a way to make a big gift to Dawson Community College without touching your bank account. Such a generous gift helps us continue our work for years to come. And a gift of real estate also helps you. When you give us appreciated property you have held longer than one year, you qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction. You avoid paying capital gains tax. And you no longer have to deal with that property’s maintenance costs, property taxes or insurance.
Another benefit: You don’t have to hassle with selling the real estate. You can deed the property directly to DCC or ask your attorney to add a few sentences in your will or trust agreement.

Securities and Mutual Funds that have increased in value and been held for more than one year are one of the most popular assets to use when making a gift to Dawson Community College. Making a gift of securities or mutual funds to us offers you the chance to support our work while realizing important benefits for yourself. When you donate appreciated securities or mutual funds you have held more than one year to us in support of our mission, you can reduce or even eliminate federal capital gains taxes on the transfer. You may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the securities at the time of the transfer.

Direct Mail
All of our alumni and friends are given the opportunity to make a gift each Spring by mail. When you receive a request for support from your college please take a moment to review the funding needs that appeal to you. Whatever the amount of your gift, it will make a difference.

License Plates
You can purchase your Dawson Community College plates for an additional $35 at the time of vehicle registration.  Of that fee, $30 will be transferred to the Collegiate License Plate Endowed Scholarship. Your $30 can be claimed on your tax return as a tax-deductible contribution. Parents, friends, students and alumni, this is a wonderful way to show your support for Dawson Community College.
