Dawson Community College (DCC) is pleased to announce a new scholarship available for students enrolling for Spring 2019. The Fresh Start Scholarship is for students who may have struggled in high school or at a previous college and are looking for a “fresh start.”
Students who graduated from high school in the past four years with at least a 2.0 GPA and either never attended college or attended a college or university other than DCC are eligible for a Fresh Start Scholarship of up to $1,000.
“We’ve seen many students who struggled in high school achieve great success in college,” said Suela Cela, Director of Enrollment Management. “However, they are often ineligible for scholarships due to their high school GPA or because they’ve taken some time off from school.”
The scholarship is also open for students who may have started college somewhere other than DCC.
“Even academically gifted students struggle sometimes with adjusting to a college or university, and their GPA suffers. We want to help provide them another opportunity to succeed,” said Cela.
To keep the scholarship, students must maintain at least a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled and active in at least one student club or organization.
“Studies have shown that campus involvement is related to student success. Getting involved in a group will help students adjust to life on campus and set them up for greater academic achievement,” Cela explained.
The Fresh Start Scholarship is open to all full-time, degree-seeking students who are Montana residents. Applications are available at www.dawson.edu/future/buccaneer-excellence-program.
