Dawson Community College has the responsibility to provide a safe and healthy learning environment. To protect public health and safety, pets/animals, other than service/assistance animals and research animals, are not permitted in College buildings. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the President or his/her designee.
Service/assistance animals must be under the control of its handler. Individuals handling a service animal must comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including vaccinations, licensure, animal health, and leash laws.
Research animals are defined as all forms of animals used for educational purposes in academic facilities.
The College may impose charges for damages caused by a service animal in the same manner the College imposes charges for damages to property.
Violation of this policy may result in administrative and/or disciplinary actions to the owner.
SCOPE: This policy applies to Dawson Community College.
PROCEDURES: The College President shall promulgate such procedures as may be needed to implement this policy.
